On Saturday, June 10th, for the second year in a row, ABConservation was welcomed at the park of La Boissière du Doré. Since our last educational intervention in 2016, many things happened with the couple of binturongs, Kaori and Miwa. In fact, they are now parents of three little bearcats. One born the last year in July (named Iwaga), and two small balls of hair which are two-and-a-half months old. The births in European zoological parks are very rare so that is good news for the European breeding program which includes La Boissière du Doré.
We were very happy to come back in this park, because it’s the first establishment which has believed in us for the development of the Bearcat Study Program on Palawan Island.
Program of this special day: meeting with visitors, preparation by the public of the meal for the bearcats (in the form of enrichments), tasting of spread (without palm oil), make up, making labels “No-spam” for the mail boxes with a binturong ambassador. And a binbinquiz, created by Perrine and Marion (educational officer and collection manager of the park) in the form of a super board game (minimum two players)! Rules of the game: the first gamer starts by throwing of the dice and has to answer one question about the bearcat. If he gives a correct answer, he can move his piece of two squares. At the opposite, if he gives a bad reply, he has to go back of a square. The first gamer who will arrive at the square BRAVO will become an ambassador of binturongs and he will win a pin’s of ABConservation.
Visitors were invited to choose a name (among ten names pre-selected by their keepers) for each little binturong born the last 27th of March.
This day has taken place under a sky without cloud, and punctuated by several meetings and many exchanges with visitors.
A big thank-you to Sébastien Laurent (the director of the zoo of La Boissière du Doré) for welcoming us one more time; to Perrine and Marion who are creative and dynamic; to the catering team which is always in a good mood; and of course, to the zoo keepers for their welcome and for having encouraged the visitors to visit our workshop about the bearcat. Anyway, thanks to a top team for that super welcome!!
