Sunday, August 7th, and for the second consecutive year, ABConservation was welcomed by the Zoo of Pont-Scorff. This arboreal park of 12 hectares, invested since 80’S in the conservation of threatened animal species by participating actively in 35 European breeding program (EEP), including the one relative to the bearcat.
In addition, since several months, Rio (the male binturong) has been joined by Lolès (young female binturong born in a Spanish zoological park). Several couplings were observed and the park hopes a birth in the coming months.
It was during a shiny day that Agathe (Scientific officer) and Pauline (president and project officer) met visitors of the zoological park and exchanged with them about our little friend still unknown to the public.
On the menu, presentation of the bearcat, explanations about the work of ABConservation and about the EEP on the bearcat, delivery of educational booklets, flyers for adults, masks and colourings. Without forgetting a lot of face paintings (representing, of course, the binturong) maked by our ABConservation’s team.
Agathe and Pauline had the opportunity to be interviewed by two radio stations (here are the links to listen to the interviews performed by Hitwest and RCF Radio : http://www.hitwest.com/news/le-binturong-esp-egrave-ce-menac-eacute-e-du-zoo-de-pont-scorff-26788 – https://rcf.fr/vie-quotidienne/pont-scorff-la-rencontre-du-binturong) and by the Ouest France newspaper (http://www.ouest-france.fr/bretagne/pont-scorff-56620/le-binturong-cet-animal-meconnu-et-menace-5182522).
Conclusion of this day: Huge! A Lot of visitors who were curious and interested in the binturong! An amazing zoo’s team which have followed our adventure at distance during the setup of our camera traps on the Palawan Island for collecting data in the natural environment of the binturong).
A particular thank to Petra for her welcome, her kindness and her help during this day!
