On June 13th, I had a meeting with the principal of the Langogan Elementary School in order to propose to do an activity about the binturong for the children. In trying to match the school schedule and mine, it resulted in that I will do the activity tomorrow afternoon! So I have to prepare an activity for 200 children. The goal is that the children have to learn 3 key points
- The bearcart lives in the trees in the forest
- The bearcat eats a lot of fruits and few insects and rodents
- The bearcat lives during the night
They have to draw a binturong, trees to represent the forest, a lot of fruits such as banana, few insects, few rodent and moon and stars to represents the night. If they want, they can also write their name and draw themselves. It should look like that more or less.
On June 14th, I am at the school again! While I prepare everything, some children who have finish their work, run toward me to observe what I brought. The principal introduce me and I do a little speech to present who I am, ABConservation and present them the activity about the binturong that we will do. Then, they split in 6 groups with a teacher to begin the activity. Because a really heavy rain, they had to come back, but it did not stop them to draw and color! As soon as they had finish their drawing, they were very proud to pose with their drawing for a photo. Some of them also practice their English with me. From “Where is your home?” to “Do you have brothers or sisters? How many?”, they know everything about me now! At the end of the activity, they took their drawing and mask to show it to their family!
