Created in 2007 by the “French Comity of the International Union for Conservation of Nature” and the magazine “Terre Sauvage”, the Fête de la Nature is an event made to celebrate biodiversity all together. It consists in 5 days of free events in France, which allows everyone to make contact with Nature.
Since 2016, ABConservation has been participating in this event every year, in partnership with the Museum National d’Histoire Naturelle (MHNH), and alongside over twenty other associations working for the conservation of Nature. Each year there is a new specific theme. For 2019: Nature in motion!
To illustrate “Nature in motion”, we have decided to highlight the ecological role of the binturong: just as a gardener, it disseminates seeds on its way as it moves through the forest. Also, the enzymes in its digestive tract promote faster seed germination.
Using our educational material, but also a beautiful mounted specimen lent by the MNHN, we presented the binturong and the importance it has in its natural environment. We then quizzed willing participants with our binturong board game (or snakes and ladders game, without any snakes or ladders ^^).
A lovely weekend that ended with music, a song written by Agathe, played by Romaric on the guitar and sung by Arnaud, Agathe, Romaric and Pauline. Some true teamwork, a reflection of ABConservation’s spirit.
Thanks to all the team of the Museum in charge of organization, it was a great success, just like every year!
