Since August 2019, ABConservation has launched a project to help in the renovation of the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center (PWRCC). In the framework of this program, which is expected to last for several years, volunteers are welcomed in Palawan by ABConservation’s team and the PWRCC’s staff to carry out construction work at this wildlife rescue center. This work is extensive: from door repairs of aviary to pen construction, we have no lack of work at the PWRCC!
Of course, binturongs are our priority, but given the urgent need for help from the centre in the care of other animals, we couldn’t favor only our dear binturongs. Indeed, the center is home to many species: macaques, porcupines, eagles, cockatoos, mynas, calaos,… There is still a chance for some of them to be rehabilitated and released in the wild, provided that the conditions of detention at the center improve rapidly.
That’s why, in 2020, we have set three first targets for the program:
1/ Build an enclosure for one of the binturongs that cannot be released in the wild.
2/ Build an aviary to rehabilitate raptors.
3/ Renovate an old vivarium for a pet reticulated python abandoned by its owner and of an extraordinary size for a wild specimen.
This list comes in addition to the small works already done on two aviaries in 2019 and which have improved the well-being of two Sea Eagles
However, rest assured that the money you give us directly goes only to programs dedicated to binturongs! Only the money raised through this dedicated crowdfunding campaign (https://www.helloasso.com/associations/abconservation/collectes/aidez-le-centre-de-soin-pour-la-faune-sauvage-de-palawan) is fairly distributed between the different projects, depending on their costs and their emergency to be carried out.
We will of course keep you regularly informed of our progress through articles and videos, so keep posted!
