On the weekend of August 17th and 18th, ABConservaiton was invited to take part in the conservation event organized by the zoo of Pescheray, alongside 3 other amazing associations, Maki’Go, the CPPR (dedicated to the protection of red pandas) and the LPO (Ligue pour la Protection des Oiseaux).
The Domaine de Pescheray covers around 145 hectares of wooded area! A small green lung where it is nice to walk around, among animals part of the European fauna and some from more exotic locations. It is also one of the rare French zoological institutions housing Common Genets (Genetta genetta), the only European Viverrid species, a cousin of the binturong.
Unfortunately for us, the weather wasn’t too good on Saturday, and we had to delay our arrival to the following day.
On Sunday, we arrived under a light rain, greeted by Anthony, the curator and person in charge of pastries J. We had breakfast with the other volunteers and got to know each other and talk about each other’s organizations.
Around noon, with help from Maki’Go to hang a tarpaulin over us (well yes, we don’t own an arbour to shelter ourselves from the rain yet), we were ready to welcome visitors. While we were waiting for them, the CPPR, Maki’Go, Anthony and ourselves were chatting and discussing hot topics related to the environment, a short special moment among associations J.
Around 1.30pm the first visitors reached our stands and slowly we got to meet more and more people.
I forgot to say that the afternoon was sunny J That definitely helped bring in the visitors.
For this conservation weekend, we wish to thank Anthony for his welcome and the organization of the event, thank you Martine for the lunch and for staying around the entire day, thanks to Maki’Go as well as the CPPR for their help, their good company and their capacity for sharing (it’s always a pleasure to spend these weekends with you guys ^^). Finally, specials thanks go to Lulu, our volunteer, who put into practice her education skills to help ABConservation.
