Once again this year, La Ménagerie du Jardin des Plantes welcomed us to celebrate the World Binturong Day on Saturday 12th May 2018, with a special feature this year: we were invited to extend the celebration of the Binturong for the entire weekend!
Despite the cool and cloudy weather – even a rather cold Sunday – a lot of visitors, adults and children, participated in the numerous animations offered on this special day: construction of “pop-up” enclosures, crafting enrichment for Haya, the female binturong, conference on the Bearcat Study Program (the scientific program conducted by the NGO since January 2017), intervention of zookeepers, quiz,… and of course, as in previous years, the well-known face painting by students of the makeup school ITM-Paris who allowed the release of many wonderful binturong-children into Paris. A photo exhibition has also been set up in the pathways of the zoo and will remain accessible to visitors until July.
The association volunteers and presenters from the education department of La Ménagerie didn’t stay idle during this colorful weekend, which allowed the association to raise donations and also to generate new passions as we counted 5 new subscribers by the end of this terrific week-end.
We wish to thank all the staff at La Ménagerie for their implication in the preparation and running of the weekend, especially Mathilde Rebuffaud, scientific mediation officer at La Ménagerie, who oversaw the entire organization of the weekend. Our warm thanks to the SECAS and its two volunteers Marie and Monique, who helped us with running the sales stall. Obviously, the weekend wouldn’t have been the same without the precious help of our volunteers, Arnaud, Christian, Irène, Emmanuel, Cyrielle, Melissa and Anne-Gwenaël, always filled with this passion they convey so well!
